Two new lightning caused fires were discovered on the Gallatin National Forest southwest of West Yellowstone, Montana, on Friday afternoon, August 30, 2013 The Two Top Fire is burning in heavy fuels along the Montana-Idaho state line. The initial response Friday included several smokejumpers, a wildland fire engine and multiple retardant drops by a engine air tanker. Additional smokejumpers and two hotshot crews will arrive later Saturday to aid in the suppression efforts. A bulldozer previously working on the nearby Mosquito Fire is being reassigned to the Two Top Fire. As of Saturday morning, the fire was estimated at 30 acres The Mosquito Fire is located about 3 ½ miles northeast of the Two Top Fire. It is burning in a younger forest. Two wildland fire engines, a water tender and a bulldozer were used Friday to begin construction of fire line.
